|Max Henry Croft, age 86, of Michigan City, IN passed away on Friday, December 21, 2013 at Franciscan St. Anthony Health in Michigan City, IN.
He was born on May 2, 1927 in Jasonville, IN to Horace E. and Elsa (Poppe) Croft, who preceded him in death.
Max is survived by his wife: Sandra (Schoch) Croft and daughters: Carol Croft, Melissa (McCormick) Mrozinski (Scott) and son: Michael (Amy) McCormick; grandchildren: Kathryn, Natalie, Alex and Andrea Schultz and Kaeli Grace and Lily Mae Mrozinski; brother: Phil (Sharon) Croft. Max was also preceded in death by his sister: Joan.
Max grew up in Terre Haute and Clay City, IN where he graduated from Clay City High School and enlisted in the Navy during WWII. After the war, Max graduated from Indiana State with a bachelorís degree and also received his masterís degree in education from Indiana University. Max taught for 40 years, 37 of which were at Elston Jr. and Sr. High School, where he was golf coach for 21 years. He was named Coach of the Year in 1983 by the High School Golf Coaches Association and in 1986 the Indiana High School Coaches Association named him Coach of the Year for golf. Max was inducted into the Indiana High School Golf Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1999.
Since retirement, Max has served as a volunteer at the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. He is a member of Michigan City First Methodist Church.
There will be no visitation or services. Cremation has taken place.
Maxís wish is for donations to be given in his name to Michiana Humane Society or the Michigan City Boys and Girls Club.
